Bartels brothers each win in Alpine Hills Fall Classic

The Bartels brothers, Benjamin and Bastian, each won tennis titles at the Alpine Hills Junior Fall Classic in Portola Valley in early August.
Benjamin Bartels knocked off Kevin Casey of Mt. Shasta 6-0, 6-2 to take the boys 18's singles title, and Bastian Bartels edged Dan Duong of Sunnyvale 6-4, 6-3 to win the boys 16's crown.
Other local players competing in the Junior Fall Classic included: Boys 16's-- Philip and Edward Perepelitzky of San Jose, and Steven Golod of Saratoga; Boys 14's-- Cameron Askew of Saratoga; Girls 18's-- Belinda Rungsea of Cupertino, and Amanda Wise and Alexandra Lipton of Saratoga; and Girls 16's-- Connie Chang of Saratoga and Christi Green of Monte Sereno.
Earlier in the summer, Eric Chow of Sunnyvale reached the finals of the boys 14's division before losing at the Pacific Coast Junior Tennis championships held in late July at the Round Hill Country Club in Alamo.
Chow beat Robert Wong of Sacramento 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Clancy Shields of Colorado 6-3, 6-0 in the semifinals before losing a tough 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-1 heartbreaker to Austin Moller of Manhattan Beach in the finals.
A.J. Kerin of Saratoga finished fourth in his divisions. Kerin edged Andrew Diefenbach of Danville 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (6) in the boys 16's quarterfinals, but lost 6-4, 6-1 to Artem Petushkov of Los Altos in the semi's. Kerin, the No. 4 seed, ended up fourth when he dropped a 6-0, 6-4 nod to Travis Crawford of Santa Cruz in the third-place match.
