Cartoonist DeCinzo should lighten up
I got a kick out of DeCinzo's cartoon of July 28, 1999, depicting me as the "lap dog" of the building industry. He properly deduced that it would not serve his sarcasm to associate me with my present organization, the Silicon Valley Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA), where I am delighted to serve as executive director.
DeCinzo is undoubtedly aware that surveys in recent years conducted by the Pacific Research Institute show that up to 87 percent of Californians agree that frivilous lawsuits are plaguing our civil justice system, costing the consumer and the taxpayer a fortune as well as clogging our courts. Therefore, a positive, nonprofit, educational watchdog group like CALA does not serve as a source of disparagement for DeCinzo's cartoon.
So DeCinzo dips into my "dark" past as the director of local governmental affairs with BIA (now known as the Home Builders Association, or HBA). Come to think of it, builders of our homes, those who provide shelter for our families, have helped Americans to become the best-housed people on earth. Lighten up, DeCinzo; do something positive with your ink and your talents.
