Punt, Pass and Kick

The annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest will be held Sept. 28, 3 p.m., at Camden Park. The free contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-15 (as of Dec. 31, 1997). For more information, call 277-5556.

Carousel to Coaster

The annual Carousel to Coaster Run returns to Great America Sept. 28, 8:30 a.m. The 10K run and 5K walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the course cuts right through the middle of the amusement park in Santa Clara.

The registration fee is $17, due by Sept. 15, and includes a race T-shirt. Race day registration is $20.

Open Water Swim

Swimmers will dive into the 70-degree waters of Lexington Reservoir on Sept. 7, 9 a.m., for the Catfish Open Water Swim.

The event features 500-yard, 1.2-mile and 2.4-mile events, and the $30 registration fee includes a T-shirt, swim cap, food and entertainment.

Adult Softball

The San Jose Community Sports fall softball league begins a six-game season on Sept. 8, and openings remain for interested teams. The cost is $335 per team. For more information, call 277-5556.

Maltbie Classic

The annual Roger Maltbie Classic golf tournament returns to San Jose Country Club on Sept. 5. The entry fee is $180, and proceeds benefit the golf programs at local high schools and at San Jose City College.

The tournament is named for the former PGA star who grew up in San Jose and starred as a prep golfer for James Lick, playing at that same San Jose Country Club.

Flag Football

Third and Long Sports will host the Red Zone II four-on-four flag football tournament on Sept. 13 at Independence High School in San Jose.

The entry fee is $100 per team, and all of the teams are guaranteed a minimum of two games. All participants receive a tourney T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
