Saratogan Jennifer Chang, a junior at Lynbrook High School, was selected by the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation as one of the nation's most promising young leaders.
Chang was invited to an eight-day World Leadership Congress in Houston Aug. 2-9. She joined more than 200 student ambassadors from every state and 33 different countries in panel discussions on such topics as culture and values and space exploration.
U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Gali and Houston Mayor Bob Lanier welcomed the student ambassadors.
Held annually, the World Leadership Congress is the culmination of more than 90 seminars conducted locally each spring throughout America. Student ambassadors invited to attend the congress have been selected as the next generation's "best and brightest," according to founder Hugh O'Brien.
Student ambassadors came from as far away as Sierra Leone, Israel and Senegal. Seminars, tutorials and question and answer sessions were designed to challenge high-school students to become positive catalysts for change through leadership solutions, O'Brien said.
Chang is the daughter of Edmund and Janice Chang of Saratoga. She is on the speech and debate team at Lynbrook, and she will be the high school's public relations commissioner this coming year. She volunteers at Good Samaritan Hospital and for the American Cancer Society and is a Saratoga Youth Commissioner.
