Saratogans continue to lead active lives this summer. Etta Palmer gave her daughter, Maura, an unusual birthday present: a Colorado trip to run the Pike's Peak Marathon/America's Ultimate Challenge. The two ran it together.
More than 100 people attended Ann Marie Burger's kick-off campaign for City Council at the home of Gladys and Fred Armstrong. Among those attending were City Council member Don Wolfe and Mayor Paul Jacobs. Beth Wyman, who is also a candidate for City Council, was there.
Friends of the Saratoga Libraries welcome new members and renewals. Forms can be picked up at the library or Book Go Round. There are plans for more evening meetings this year. The next meeting is Monday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. with Gerald Uelmen, Santa Clara University Law School professor and O.J. Simpson trial lawyer, speaking.
Community librarian Dolly Barnes reports that more than 1,000 children joined the Summer Reading Clubs at the Saratoga Library.
Rachel Varnell's photo appears in the Aug. l9 issue of People magazine. She is a second-year law student at Santa Clara University and had her picture taken for People while interning for Judge Hastings at the Richard Allen Davis trial.

Kimberlie Bolognesi has a resale boutique at 14572 Big Basin Way called Kimberlie's (867-9972). She practices what she preaches. The wedding dress Kimberlie bought to be married in Oct. 12 was purchased for $25 at a secondhand store. Her first sale is Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sue Fox and Lyndy Janes, two beautiful models, opened The Workshoppe at 14419 Big Basin Way (741-8307). They have several programs for teens and preteens to help build self-esteem. Other services include image consulting, fragrance blending, and aromatherapy. Customized personal and business gift baskets can be purchased.
Cathy Balach started Goodbody Total Wellness Shop at 14435 Big Basin Way (867-9670). She has vitamins, skin and body care, herbal remedies, aromatherapy and health books. Classes are held on health related issues. Therapeutic massage is available.
Michelle Beck and Ted Brunn own the Golden Mirror at 14415 B Big Basin Way (867-1936). They have over 500 mirrors and works of art. Customized mirrors can be ordered.
