    Grand jury visits Saratoga firehouse

Saratoga Fire District officials said that members of the Santa Clara County Grand Jury had visited the Saratoga Fire Station in recent weeks.

When asked whether the grand jury--the county's citizen watchdog body--was investigating the Saratoga Fire District, Grand Jury Coordinator Gloria Chacòn said the body does not disclose what it is investigating while investigations are ongoing.

Deputy County Counsel David Kahn added, "Witnesses are admonished not to disclose the investigation while it's ongoing."

Every year 19 citizens from throughout the county compose the jury, which looks into complaints about local government agencies. Among other things, the jury investigates financial expenditures and misconduct by public officials.

    Landslide repair closes Highway 9

Caltrans closed one lane of Congress Springs Road near Pierce Road last week to repair a landslide in the area. The closure continued this week beginning Sept. 4 and will not end until Sept. 8.

A 24-hour traffic light will continue to control traffic through the area. According to Caltrans, motorists can expect five-minute delays in the area. Also, signal timing may be adjusted to accommodate visitors to the Mountain Winery events on Pierce Road.

After the 24-hour signal control ends on Sept. 8, the area will be on one-way traffic control during days through October.

    Temporary library opening delayed

Saratoga's new temporary library facility will not be opened until Sept. 17, according to Saratoga Community Library Supervisor Dolly Barnes.

The facility was scheduled to be open on Sept. 4, but Barnes said Aug. 29 that PG&E and the local telephone operator had not yet hooked up utility lines into the temporary structures that sit behind Sacred Heart Church on Saratoga Avenue.

Barnes said the groundbreaking ceremony for the new library will still go ahead as planned: Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. on the site of the renovation at 13650 Saratoga Ave. The ceremony is open to the public.
