    Sheriff's Report

    Criminal conspiracy/forgery/false identification--Aug. 29, 5 p.m. on Woodleigh Court. Unknown suspects counterfeited checks from a subject's account and used them at various locations. The suspects purchased an estimated $10,000 of merchandise with the checks. The suspects also altered a California driver's license with the victim's information when cashing the checks.

    Possession of burglary tools--Aug. 26, 12:11 a.m. on Saratoga Avenue. A deputy stopped a male suspect for riding his bike at night without a headlight. The suspect had outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants, and was taken into custody. A search by the deputy of the suspect's possessions yielded burglary tools. Charges of possession of the tools were submitted to the district attorney for review.

    Possession of methamphetamines/ under the influence--Aug. 25, 10:43 p.m. on Saratoga Avenue. During a consent search of a suspect's vehicle, the investigating deputy located methamphetamines and an opium pipe. The suspect admitted to possessing both items. The deputy booked the suspect into Santa Clara County Jail on possession charges.

    Theft of a credit card number--Aug. 25, 8 a.m. on Miller Avenue. A victim reported her credit card had been used without her permission from Dec. 13, 1998, to Aug. 1, 1999. The woman said she had noticed monthly charges of $19.95 per month that she could not identify. The total charges of $179.55 were found to be for membership to a certain Internet site. Investigation found that the suspect was a resident of Russia, but no other information had been obtained.

    Under ther influence/soliciting without a license--Aug. 25, 12:30 p.m. A town resident reported a man looking into neighborhood homes and yelling, "So don't vote for me." Deputies approached the man and found him to be excited and very sweaty and nervous. The suspect said he was selling magazines door to door but did not have a permit. Deputies arrested the man for being under the influence and soliciting without a permit.
