Saratoga NewsOn CampusSaratogans earn a place on honor roll Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., recently named Saratogans Benjamin Sun and Michael Poutré to the Dean's Honor Roll for the spring semester. The students had to maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.5 to be eligible for the honor list. Stuart Ort receives AHA research grant Saratogan Stuart Ort was recently selected to participate in the 1998 Student Research Program of the American Heart Association. Ort is spending the summer working in laboratories with Santa Clara County researchers. The Cal Poly senior is majoring in biology and was selected for the $2,500 grant based on his aptitude for science and his academic standing. Ort is one of 66 students statewide selected for the program and is studying at VA Palo Alto Health Care System under Ronald Dalman, M.D. Superintendent goes to Harvard Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District Superintendent Cythia Ranii recently participated in the Harvard Seminar for New Superintendents at Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Mass. The seminar, held in late June, focused on preparing superintendents to meet the educational, managerial and political challenges of leading a district. As one of 47 superintendents at the weeklong event, Ranii also learned about topics ranging from governance and financial management to conflict negotiation and media relations. OSU commends a local student Oregon State University recently named Christopher M. Reed to the Scholastic Honor Roll for the spring term. Reed, a senior in the College of Health and Human Performance, had to maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better while taking at least 12 units of classes to make the honor roll. William Eddie focuses on natural-resources law William Michael Eddie II recently earned a juris doctorate degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College. The college also awarded Eddie an environmental certificate recognizing curriculum concentration in environmental and natural-resources law. Darryl MacQuarrie earns a spot on the dean's list Texas Christian University in Fort Worth recently named Darryl Ryan MacQuarrie to the dean's honor list for the spring semester. MacQuarrie, a business major, had to be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours of study and have an exceptional grade-point average to be eligible for the honor.
