Edward Nicholas Bartlome
Edward Nicholas "Eddie" Bartlome, 81, who for many years was foreman at Grandview Ranch, the P.M. Pike property on Pike Road, died Aug. 20 at his home in Camino, El Dorado County, where he had lived for the past 22 years.
Mr. Bartlome came to Saratoga with his parents from Newman, Stanislaus County, in 1920. He graduated from Saratoga Grammar School in 1929 and from Los Gatos High School in 1933. He was a 1935 graduate in horticulture from California State Polytechnic College, now a university, then a two-year institution, in San Luis Obispo.
He was known as Saratoga's unofficial weatherman, maintaining a rain gauge at Grandview Ranch from the early 1930s. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of San Jose Lodge No. 10, F&AM, and a life member of the Cal Poly Alumni Association. An enthusiastic bowler, he was a member of the Buggee Bowlers and other groups at Saratoga Lanes.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Bertelsen Bartlome; daughters Claudia Smith of Placerville, Kathy Bartlome of Camino, and Elisia Bergenholtz of Shingle Springs; a nephew, two nieces, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
There was no funeral service. His ashes will be inurned in the family plot at Newman.
