Celebrate Saratoga kicks off Saturday
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce's annual street party Celebrate Saratoga! kicks off this Saturday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 on Big Basin Way in the Village. The event features six local bands and a host of restaurants and wineries that be serving up their cuisine and cocktails during the festival.
Attendees can park at either Saratoga High School or the Argonaut Shopping Center and a free shuttle will provide transport up to the Village.
Celebrate Saratoga! is the Chamber's annual fundraising event.

Tax relief offered for some seniors
Low-income seniors may be eligible for a parcel tax refund from the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
The taxes have been levied over the last 15 years by the district as part of its Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Program. The district has assessed $39 per year on single family homes and $19 per year on condominiums and townhouses.
This year low-income homeowners who are 65 years or older as of December 31, 2000, and earned less than $32,850 over the last year are eligible for a refund on the assessment. Eligible seniors must submit an application for the refund to the district.
In the coming years, eligible people will be exempt from the tax.

Saratoga create arts commission
The city established a new arts commission by passing resolution Sept. 5. The move came as a result of city council discussions August 15 that the city would benefit from having an advisory commission to support the arts. This commission will be patterned after other commissions that assist the city council with community issues.
The commission will be charged with increasing art displays in public buildings, and supporting drama, music and children's arts programs in Saratoga.
A total of seven commissioners serve four-year terms on the arts board.
The city is also seeking board members for the recently establish Saratoga Community Foundation.
