Saratoga NewsCelebrate Saratoga street dance just around cornerBy Sarah Lombardo Mark your calendars: The Celebrate Saratoga '98 street dance, hosted by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Saratoga Village. The event will include live bands on five different stages, and patrons will have the opportunity to purchase wine from local wineries, microbrew beer from area breweries and gourmet food from Saratoga restaurants. The Saratoga Fire District will also open its doors to residents and visitors with an open house, complete with fire-safety displays, historical photos and the proposed new building design currently in the planning stages with district officials. Don't be surprised if fire trucks from the district's early days even make an appearance to celebrate the district's 75th anniversary. The 10th annual event will be the highlight of a weeklong schedule of activities designed to celebrate the community of Saratoga, beginning with a tour of the Saratoga Community Library on Monday, Sept. 21. The free tour will inform patrons about service and electronic resources available at the library, located at the corner of Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues. The Saratoga Authors Hall of Fame exhibit will also go on display beginning Sept. 21, and continue through Oct. 4 at the library. The exhibit will include the works of more than 200 local authors. For event times or more information about either the tour or the Hall of Fame exhibit, call the library at 867-6126. Wednesday, Sept. 23, will see the Spaghetti Feed take place at Our Lady of Fatima Villa on Los Gatos-Saratoga Road. The meal will include not only pasta, but garlic bread, salad and--of course--fine company. The cost is $4 for adult and $3 for children. For times and more information, call 741-2954. High Tea will be served at the Saratoga Senior Center on Allendale Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 24. The official kickoff of the Celebrate Saratoga festivities--and a significant fundraiser for the Senior Center--will include musical entertainment, sandwiches, tea, coffee for the nontraditionalists and sweets.
