Open Space District seeks volunteers

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is seeking weekday volunteers to become field trip leaders in their environmental education program, Spaces and Species: Exploring Natural Communities.

Outdoor-education leaders spend the day hiking, interpreting nature and leading educational games and activities with small groups of fourth- to sixth-grade students. The four-hour field trips include a "Habitat Hike" and "Aquatic Lab."

Those interested in becoming outdoor-education leader volunteers need to attend an informational meeting on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the district's office in Los Altos. Training will be held on Tuesdays during the fall. For more information, call Carleen Bruins at 650/691-1200.

Westmont High to host festival

Westmont High School will host its sixth annual Westmont Warriors Weekend on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival will feature carnival games and attractions including a battle of the bands, three-on-three basketball tournaments, car demolition and a skating exhibition by Team Adventures group. The event will also feature arts and crafts and an open-air flea market starting at 8 a.m.
