Saratoga NewsSports BriefsBarracudas win The De Anza Barracudas, a CYSA under-14 girls' soccer team, won the championship at the Blossom Valley Tom Radesic Memorial Tourney, held Sept. 5-6 in Morgan Hill. The Barracudas finished first in the 12-team bracket, allowing just two goals in four games. Team members include Samantha Bell, Amanda Brandt, Meredith Chabrier, Katie Gazley, Ashley Louderback, Amanda Perez, Ilana Sabes and Nikki Snyder of Saratoga; Kelly Gault of Monte Sereno; Chantel McNulty of Cupertino; Maria McNulty of Los Gatos; and Melanie Miller, Gina Novali, Tiffany Scheibley and Michiko Shimakage of San Jose. The coach are Lee Gazley and Herb Brandt. Bowe wins again Kevin Bowe of Saratoga is getting pretty good at this open water swimming business. Earlier this summer, Bowe finished first in his age division at a triathlon that included a swim across Lake Almaden. Now the Mitty swimmer has added another victory at the RedBull Catfish Open Water Swim at the Lexington Reservoir on Aug. 30. Bowe cruised through the 1.2-mile course in 24:24.6 to finish first in the boys' 19-and-under division and second overall. Table Tennis Table tennis classes and competition is now available at the Southwest YMCA, 13500 Quito Road in Saratoga. For information, call 867-9056. Soccer Signups The Saratoga AYSO youth soccer program has openings in the fall soccer program in the following divisions: Division 2 Girls (ages 14-15); Division 5 Girls (8-9); Division 6 Girls (6-7); Division 6 Boys (ages 6-7); and Division 7 Coed (must be 5 years old by Dec. 31). Registration is set for Sept. 12, 9 a.m.-noon, at Congress Springs Park. The fee is $100 per player, and all players must provide a birth certificate or passport for proof of age. Basketball Signups The Saratoga National Junior Basketball League will hold signups for the 1998 season on Sept. 27, 1-4 p.m., in the main gym at Saratoga High School.
