Membership Showcase is focus of this year's AAUW fall meeting
The Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) launches the coming year's activities with a Membership Showcase from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Sept. 28 at the Terraces of Los Gatos, 800 Blossom Hill Road.
Sue Parks, a performer in San Francisco's Beach Blanket Babylon, will entertain with songs and anecdotes from her days on stage.
AAUW holds monthly general meetings focusing on topics of personal and professional interest to women and offers more than 20 interest groups. Prospective members are welcome to attend. For more information, call 741-0652.
San Jose Symphony maestro Leonid Grin addresses auxiliary
The San Jose Symphony Auxiliary will hold its fall general membership luncheon Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the Capital Club, Fairmont Plaza building, 17th floor, San Jose.
Maestro Leonid Grin will tell how to put a symphony season together. Cost is $23 per person, open to the public. Call 377-9049 for reservations.
Several Saratogans are represented on the auxiliary's board, including: Karen Bonke, corresponding secretary; Ann Hexamer, recording secretary; Anne Louden, newsletter editor; Marie Low, second vice president; and Bonnie Radding, first vice president.
League of Women Voters looks at ballot initiatives
The Los Gatos-Saratoga-Monte Sereno branch of the League of Women Voters will present an informational program at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 on the November ballot initiatives, including discussions on health care, CCRI, campaign-finance reform and legalizing marijuana. The session will be held in the downstairs meeting room of Planned Parenthood, 1691 The Alameda, San Jose.
The program is being sponsored by the Pro-Choice Coalition of Santa Clara County. The coalition consists of some 30 organizations in the Bay Area. For more information, call 536-0802.
