    JC Teams in Action

    The West Valley and De Anza community college football teams will both be back in action this week.

    The Vikings will entertain Diablo Valley College

    on Sept. 21, 3 p.m., at their home field in Saratoga, and the Dons will host Contra Costa College Sept. 22, 1 p.m., at their Cupertino campus field.

    Volleyball Tryouts

    The Apex Volleyball Club is holding tryouts for boys ages 12-18. No experience is necessary.

    Practices will be held in Los Gatos and Saratoga, and teams will play weekend tournaments in Northern California.

    Notre Dame Golf Tourney Held

    A golf tournament to benefit Notre Dame High School in San Jose will be held Oct. 1 at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose.

    The cost is $185 and includes green fees, lunch, contests, silent and oral auctions, cocktails, dinner and a drawing. Golfers are allowed to bring a guest to dinner.

    Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 with a shotgun start at noon. Proceeds from the tourney provide funding for the school's financial assistance program.

    Fore Women

    The fourth annual Northern California Women's Corporate Open golf tournament will be held Oct. 5 at the Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course.

    The 18-hole event is for amateur women golfers and will include the Corporate Cup competition for teams representing companies and businesses from all over Northern California.

    The charity event is a fund-raiser for the Women's Sports Foundation and the Pacific Women's Golf Association, with funds going to assist in providing lessons, equipment and programs for assist junior girl golfers.

    NJB All-Net Basketball Tryouts

    The Saratoga NJB All-Net basketball program will hold tryouts for boys in grades eight and under on Sept. 23 in the Saratoga High School gym.

    Tryouts will be held Sunday from 3-5 p.m. for boys in sixth grade and under; 5-7 p.m. for boys in seventh grade; and 7-9 p.m. for boys in eighth grade.

    Each player must be accompanied by a parent at the All-Net registration, which begins one hour prior to the tryout time. The registration fee is $250. Parent or legal guardian must bring a player's proof of residency (PG&E bill).

    The All-Net program was created to further the skills of players who are interested in playing high school basketball. It is highly competitive and only 10 players are selected for each team. Players must be residents of Saratoga or reside in the Saratoga Union School District.

    Peckler Memorial Run in Los Gatos

    The fifth annual Peckler Memorial Run will return to Los Gatos on Oct. 7, featuring a number of different divisions and races for individual runners and relay teams.

    The event will begin at the Los Gatos High School track with participants running to Vasona Park and back.

    At the conclusion of the race, there will be a butterfly release to celebrate the memory of Jim, Jill and Jeff Peckler, who were killed by a drunken driver.

    The event will also help to kick off Red Ribbon Month, which focuses on substance abuse education in local schools.
