The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce will present Celebrate Saratoga! 2000, the annual street dance and celebration that occurs downtown, on Sept. 23.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m. Admission is free and there will be a shuttle service running between Saratoga High School and Big Basin Way. For the first time, the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley will put on a laser light show, one of the first held in Silicon Valley, according to the Chamber.

The live bands performing this year are The Heartbeats, a rock & roll band; the blues band Red Beans and Rice; Mark Russo and The Classic Sounds, which performs swing, Latin, jump blues and rock; The Hitmen, which plays songs from the 1970s and 1980s; and The Flashbacks. There will also be a DJ and a fun zone for children.

Local restaurants will sell gourmet food from booths lining Big Basin Way and nearby wineries will offer wines. This year, there will also be microbrew beer and margaritas offered.

Food tickets and wineglasses will be available the day of the event. Menu prices will vary from each booth.

Other events listed on the Celebrate Saratoga! Events Calendar include a "High Tea" on Sept. 21, at the Saratoga Senior Center at 19655 Allendale Ave. from 3 to 5 p.m. Sandwiches, pastries and tarts will be served, and a flautist and a harpist will play accompaniment. The fee for the event is $10. Call 408.868.1257 for more information.

There will be an open house at the Saratoga Fire District station on the corner of Saratoga Avenue and Saratoga-Los Gatos Road on Sept. 23.

At the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries Book-Go-Round at 14410 Oak Street, there will be an exhibit of works from over 200 Saratoga authors Sept. 18 through Oct. 3. The exhibit will occur Sun.-Fri., noon to 5 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 408.867.5552 for more information.

On Sept. 24, the Saratoga Parent Nursery School will stage a 5K run/walk and kids run called the Saratoga Super Trot, from 9 a.m. to noon, to benefit the school. The race will begin at Saratoga High School's Benny Pierce Field. For more information, call SPNS at 408.867.9774.
