    Obituaries

    Catherine Sturrock

    Longtime Saratogan Catherine Caffey Sturrock died on Aug. 6 at the age of 78.

    A native of Washington, D.C., Sturrock was born on March 23, 1921. She received a bachelor's degree from Shorter College in Rome, Ga., in 1941 and obtained a master's degree from San Jose State University in 1966. Sturrock served as a librarian at West Valley College in Saratoga for 21 years. She was also an active member of the San Jose Opera Guild, the California Library Association, the American Library Association, the West Valley College Faculty Association and the Cairn Terrier Club of Northern California.

    Survivors include husband of 57 years James Parker Sturrock of Saratoga; son and daughter-in-law James Caffey Sturrock and Thelma Leonard of Espanola, N.M.; son David Earle Sturrock of Marshall, Minn.; daughter Hester Catherine Sturrock of San Diego; grandchildren James Caffey Sturrock Jr., Elizabeth Genevieve Googer and David Lochlin Sturrock; five great-grandchildren; siblings Dr. Eugene Mead Caffey, Col. Lochlin Willis Caffey, Dr. Helen Caffey Freeman, Mary Caffey Reistrup and Thurlow Washburn Howell Caffey; and several dozen nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

    Scott Harrington

    Saratoga resident Scott Harrington died on Aug. 24 at the age of 73.

    A native of Reno, Nev., Harrington was born on Aug. 8, 1926. He was a plant counsel with IBM for 33 years. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

    Survivors include wife Kathleen Harrington of Saratoga; son John Harrington of The Woodlands, Texas; and granddaughters Nina and Kimberly Harrington.

    Donations may be made to Stanford Law School, Stanford University, 301 Encino Hall, Stanford, 94305.
