Hugs With Heart brings smiles to homeless kids
Hugs with Heart, a new community service project run by Saratoga teenagers through Saratoga High School, has developed a mission that no South Bay children should grow up without having toys, stuffed animals or books to call their own. To that end, they are raising funds to buy these new items and deliver them to the local homeless shelters that serve children and families. Contributions may be mailed to Hugs With Heart, Saratoga High School, 20300 Herriman Ave., Saratoga, 95070. Alternately, they may be dropped off in a box in the SHS main office.
Rec. Dept. plans a day trip for Fleet Week
The Saratoga Recreation Department offers an all-day bus trip to San Francisco on Oct. 9 to coincide with Fleet Week, an annual event when various U.S. Navy ships cruise into San Francisco Bay with pomp and circumstance. Participants will also take a two-hour bay cruise that includes a buffet lunch and complimentary champagne. The final stop is Pier 39, with plenty of time to shop, take pictures or people-watch.
The trip lasts from approximately 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., and costs $89 per person. Adults of all ages are welcome. Space is limited; early reservations are recommended. For more information, call 868-1248.

New art gallery grows a glass pumpkin patch
Kristy's, the Village's newest art gallery at just 3 months old, is jumping into the community--and into autumn--with an exhibit and sale of hand-blown glass pumpkins on Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., which coincides with the Celebrate! Saratoga bash.
Secreted at the corner of Big Basin Way and Fourth Street, Kristy's is previewing 400 to 500 of the more than 1,000 pumpkins that will be arranged in a glass patch on Oct. 15 through 22 at the Palo Alto Art Center.
The squashes are the handiwork of artists belonging to the Bay Area Glass Institute and are made in all variety of sizes, shapes, colors and styles. Now in its fourth year, the seasonal pumpkin sculpture garden draws visitors to Palo Alto from throughout the Bay Area to both look and buy.
For more information, or directions to Kristy's, call 316-3329.
