Cancer Society seeks Tell a Friend volunteers

The American Cancer Society is launching a statewide education campaign titled "Tell a Friend Tuesday" and is searching for volunteers to help with the Oct. 6 event.

The campaign involves some 1,000 Bay Area volunteers placing phone calls to at least five of their friends and family members on Oct. 6 and encouraging them to get their annual mammograms. The campaign is designed to reach women age 40 and over and is California's single largest 24-hour breast cancer awareness program ever held. The event will serve as the kickoff for the American Cancer Society's October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For Tell a Friend Tuesday, volunteers are needed to spend at least 20 minutes of their time calling five women that they know who are age 40 and over. Volunteers can make the calls from their homes, community calling centers and participating work sites. To receive a "Tell a Friend" caller kit, call the local American Cancer Society office at 879-1032, ext. 144 or 800-ACS-2345.

Saratogan becomes an Infonet director

Infonet Services Corporation announced recently that Saratoga resident Robert Grosso has been promoted to regional director of its Northwest region in U.S. commercial sales. Grosso will direct the activities of sales, technical support and administrative staff within his region in an effort to support customers from San Francisco, Oakland and the Silicon Valley.

Grosso began his career in the early 1980s, selling and marketing information management products and services to Fortune 500 companies. He sold the first major infrastructure-management system in the U.S. and joined Infonet in 1991.

Saratogan places in wine contest

Tom Holden recently received two awards in the 20th annual Orange County Fair Homewine Competition held in Costa Mesta. Holden competed against 100 other amateur winemakers from around the state. His 1996 chardonnay received a bronze medal, while his 1996 cabernet sauvignon was awarded a honorable mention.

Wines were scored based on a 20-point rating system used to evaluate many of the wine's attributes including depth of color, clarity, viscosity, aroma and bouquet, body, balance and overall quality. The panel of 47 judges scored the wines using the blind taste-testing method.

Saratogan becomes VP of world sales

Earlier this month, Ronald J. DiBiase became Shoreline Teleworks' newest vice president of worldwide sales.

The Mountain View company announced that DiBiase, a Saratoga resident, will be responsible for building the company's sales and technical field teams and helping to drive distribution efforts for the company's CrystaLAN product line.

"Ron's 15 years of experience in sale and marketing in the computer and communications industries have given him the expertise needed to head our aggressive sales efforts," said John Fazio, Shoreline Teleworks president and chief executive officer.
