Saratoga Basketball

The Saratoga National Junior Basketball League will hold signups for the 1998 season on Sept. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the main gym at Saratoga High School.

The National Junior Basketball League is a competitive youth basketball league for boys and girls in the second through eighth grades.

Roller Hockey

The Silicon Valley Quakes, a traveling roller hockey team that plays out of San Jose, will hold try-outs for the 10-and-under and 8-and-under (ages as of Dec. 31, 1998) on Oct. 3 and 10, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. each day, at the Gremic Roller Hockey facility at 401 Jackson St. in San Jose.

The year-round program is open to players from anywhere in the area. There is one practice and one game each week, but the team will also travel to play weekend tournaments.

Gremic also hosts and in-house league starting at the same time with games played Sunday mornings in San Jose.

Great America Run

The annual Carousel-to-Coaster Run returns to Great America in Santa Clara on Sept. 27, at 8:30 a.m. The event features a 10K run and 5K walk. The cost is $20 and includes a race shirt (while supplies last). Registration is set for between 7 and 8 a.m. on race day. For information, call 984-3257.

Quickness Clinic

A speed and quickness clinic for football, basketball and baseball players and track athletes will be held Oct. 10, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Los Gatos High School track. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for high school students. Kids are free. For more information, call John Shepardson at 252-7844.

Punt, Pass & Kick

The annual NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition for boys and girls will be held Oct. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Camden Activities Center on Camden Avenue. For more information, call 277-5556.

Table Tennis

Table tennis classes and competition is available at the Southwest YMCA, 13500 Quito Road in Saratoga. Lessons are offered for all ages. For information, call 867-9056.
