Hall of Fame Classic

San Jose State University baseball stars of the past Rich Guardino (1974-77) and Chris Pedretti (1978-79) will be the inductees during ceremonies at the 12th annual Spartan Baseball Hall of Fame Golf Classic Oct. 24 at the Santa Clara Golf Course.

The tourney begins with registration at 11 a.m., a putting contest at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost for the best ball scramble is $140 and includes a cart, green fees, tee prizes, lunch and dinner. The cost is $45 for the dinner only. The reservation deadline is Oct. 13.

Falcons, Panthers win

The Saratoga and Prospect girls' volleyball teams both came up winners last week.

The Falcons upped their season record to 4-2 with an impressive 15-12, 17-15, 15-7 win over Gunderson in non-league play.

The Panthers won twice last week to jump to 7-2 in the 1997 season. Prospect handled Wilcox 15-9, 15-7, 15-11, then destroyed Piedmont Hills 15-10, 15-13, 15-11.

Coaches clinic

Baseball coaches Mike Cummins of Santa Clara University, Sam Piraro of San Jose State University and Rich Hill of USF will be the guest speakers at the Northern California baseball coaches clinic set for Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m., at Cupertino High School. Saratoga Fun Run

The annual Falcon Fun Run and Walk returns to the track at Saratoga High School on Sept. 28, 11 a.m. The event benefits the track and cross-country programs at the high school.

The race fee is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. For more information, call 867-7920.

Punt, Pass and Kick

The annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest will be held Sept. 28, 3 p.m., at Camden Park. The free contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-15 (as of Dec. 31, 1997). For more information, call 277-5556.

Carousel to Coaster

The annual Carousel to Coaster Run returns to Great America Sept. 28, 8:30 a.m. The 10K run and 5K walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the course cuts right through the middle of the amusement park in Santa Clara.

The registration fee is $17 by Sept. 15, and includes a race T-shirt. Race day registration is $20 and shirts will be available while supplies last.
