Several special events are being offered at Hakone Gardens this fall, ranging from a Moon Viewing to a program on Japanese textiles.
The Moon Viewing is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27. There is a happy hour at 6 p.m., an obento dinner at 7 p.m. and a program at 7:45 p.m. For dinner reservations, call Ed Porter, 867-0872. Barry Weiss will play the flute.
Traditional Japanese textiles will be explained by Koji Wada of Japan's Kasuri Dyeworks on Oct. 17. There is a lecture at 11 a.m., followed by sales until 2 p.m. The registration fee is $5, and refreshments will be served.
Hakone Foundation offers a bus trip and docent tour Nov. 14 to see "Splendors of Imperial China" at the Asian Art Museum. The registration fee is $35 for Museum Society members and $50 for non-members. Mail checks to Helen Metcalf, 14150 Douglass Lane, Saratoga, 95070.
There are also classes in everything from calligraphy to ikebana flower arranging.
Watercolorist Kay Duffy will demonstrate creative approaches to seeing and painting. Classes are set for Oct. 7 and 21, Nov. 4 and 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $145 per class.
Stephen Zander teaches ikebana flower arranging on Fridays, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Calligraphy with Bertolet Class is offered Wednesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $100.
Oil painting with Carolyn Hofstetter takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The registration fee is $5 per day.
Linda Mau teaches paper-making on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $50, plus a $5 lab fee.
Marta Szoboszlay teaches the art of pastels on Monday, Oct. 14 and 28, Nov. 11 and 25 and Dec. 2 and 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $60 for four classes.
