Groups sponsor forums for council candidates

Three forums for city council candidates have been scheduled during October. All are open to the public.

The Saratoga Good Government Group sponsors a forum on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Saratoga Senior Center, 19655 Allendale Ave. Measure L, the utility tax continuation, will also be discussed, with pro and con speakers.

Saratoga Woods Homeowners sponsor an Oct. 10 candidates forum at 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Senior Center. The forum presents an opportunity for voters to ask the four city council candidates their positions regarding issues in Saratoga.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga League of Women Voters has scheduled an evening forum on Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Library Community Room.

Community Parade steps out Oct. 6

Saratoga's old-fashioned Community Parade steps out Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The parade moves from assembly points on Saratoga Avenue, down Big Basin Way and through the village to Fourth Street, ending at Wildwood Park.

Parade Chairman Warren Lampshire said he expects more than 100 entries this year, including bands from surrounding high schools.

Parade marshals will be past mayors of Saratoga, and they will serve birthday cake, donated by local merchants to commemorate the city's 40th birthday, at Wildwood Park. There will be enough cake to serve some 2,500 guests, Lampshire said.

Falcon Fun Run at Saratoga High

The whole family can run in the Falcon Fun Run at Saratoga High School on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. The event, part of Celebrate Saratoga '96, will be a two-mile walk/run starting and finishing on the high school's new all-weather track.

After the race, runners can compete in 400-meter heats timed by varsity track coach Marshall Clark.

Trophies will go to the top three finishers, male and female, and medals to the top three finishers in all age groups. A special trophy goes to the oldest runner and to the school with the most participants. Student sports teams and clubs and adult organizations can compete for trophies based on the combined times of the top four runners.

Registration forms are available at Saratoga High School. Cost is $15 before the race and $20 on race day, with a family/team rate of $50 for four people. All proceeds go toward the Falcon Track Fund. For more information, call race director Cindy Tolliver at 867-7920.
