Vikings beat Harnell at water polo

Mark von Behren pitched in six goals to lead the West Valley Community College men's water polo team to a convincing 22-5 nonconference victory over Hartnell last week.

The Vikings were coming off a third-place finish in the Cuesta Invitational. West Valley beat Cerritos 12-5 and Orange Coast 19-9, but lost to Grossmont 11-8. The Vikes then handled Ventura 11-7 in the third place game.

1940s & '50s Night Ball Fast-pitch Reunion

The players who made up the "Night Ball" fast-pitch softball teams of the 1940s and '50s in Los Gatos are getting together again--for a reunion.

The get-together is scheduled for Sept. 25 at the Villa Felice. For more information, call John Boitano at 354-0154.

Carousel to Coaster Run at Great America

The annual Great America Carousel to Coaster Run returns to the local theme park Sept. 29, 8:30 a.m.

Participants will take off in 10K and 5K runs that begin and end in the parking lot on Great America Parkway and travel through the middle of the park.

The fee on race day is $20, and registration will be held from 7-8 a.m. T-shirts will be available while they last.

The event benefits the Friends of Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 984-3223.

Saratoga Junior Basketball Signups

NJB Saratoga is holding sign-ups for the 1996-97 youth basketball season.

The league season runs from Dec. 1 through March 9 for players in grades 3-8, and the registration fee is $100 per player. The fee is $10 for players in grades 1-2 for a season that runs Jan. 5-Feb. 9.

League play is open to boys and girls, and the league's home court is at Saratoga High School.

Space in the league is limited, and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call Matt Crosby at 867-3619.
