It's beginning to become something of a habit. But if winning state tennis championships is becoming habit-forming for the Courtside Tennis Club, it's a habit that head coach Tim Sunderland is willing to live with.

Courtside sent four teams to the Gar Glenney Cup state championships at the Tiburon Peninsula Tennis Club late last month, and three of the squads brought home state titles.

The girls 12s won 8-1, and the girls 18s and boys 18s each won 7-2 against teams from Southern California. The Courtside girls 15s dropped a tough 6-3 decision.

Courtney Hull pulled out a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with Sabina Anik for a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles to lead the girls 12s to the victory. Anik added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.

Anita Athavale blanked her foe 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Nicole Low won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Sophie Chang aced her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and she joined with Chau Nguyen for a hard-earned 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Mary Chamake supported with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Lindsey Marsh and Amanda Borsum lost a tough 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 2 doubles.

Jason Tsui, a Monta Vista graduate now at UC Santa Cruz, started the Courtside boys 18s to a 7-2 win with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

Bastian Bartels (Monta Vista) won 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Garrett Wyatt (Saratoga) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and Vikram Kumar (Harker) won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 4.

Ashvin Soin (Saratoga) at No. 5 singles and Salvy Elenkov (Westmont) at No. 6 each won by default.

Amanda Wise, a Saratoga grad now at UC Davis, won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Audrey Wingo (San Lorenzo Valley) for a 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Courtside girls 18s past SoCal 7-2. Wingo won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Alicia Hull (Los Gatos) cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, Katrina Lebedeva (Los Gatos) won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, and Cynthia Huang (Leland) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.

Claire Najour (St. Francis) and Cristi Green (Los Gatos) combined for a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Najour had lost a tough 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 nod at No. 5 singles.

Marilyn Wise (Valley Christian) and Marissa Teal (Los Gatos) dropped a 6-3, 6-0 nod at No. 3 doubles.

Caroline Stege (Los Gatos) and Katie Wittmer (Saratoga) were singles winners, and Vaiana Guittet and Nicole Adams (Castilleja) won in doubles play, but the girls 15 lost 6-3 to Southern California.
