Dan Braden
Saratogan Dan Raymond Braden died Aug. 17.
Braden was born on Jan. 26, in Monroe, Mich. He was an influential instructor and tennis coach at West Valley College in Saratoga since 1971. Throughout his coaching career, he won countless championships for WVC, and his reputation attracted tennis players from all over the world.
He was recently inducted into the California Community College Tennis Hall of Fame, an honor that has only been given to a few people since its inception.
"His great love and devotion to his family was obvious to everyone who knew him," his children recall. "He will always be remembered for his compassion, love and generosity towards others."
Survivors include wife Charlotte Braden of Saratoga; daughter Lynn Mayugba of Sacramento and Mark Braden of San Jose; grandchildren Violet Mayugba and Jorge and Julian Contreras; brothers Vic, Ralph, Paul and Joey Braden and sister Ruth Moore.
Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the Dr. George Fisher Research Fund at Stanford University, in care of Dr. George Fisher, 703 Welch Road, #H4, Palo Alto, 94304.
