Library friends plan program by Steinbeck scholar
Audry Lynch, a Saratoga resident and nationally acclaimed John Steinbeck scholar, will be the guest speaker at the Oct. 2 membership meeting of the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is at the Saratoga Community Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
A former school teacher from preschool through college level--including at Saratoga's West Valley College, Lynch has authored hundreds of papers and articles on the life and times of Steinbeck and is an avid collector of Steinbeck memorabilia. She has also published several books, including With Steinbeck in the Sea of Cortez , Acquaintances of John Steinbeck and Steinbeck Remembered.
Two local art galleries plan October shows
Assemblage artist Rob Voice is October's featured artist at Aegis Gallery, 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 2. From Sept. 26 through Oct. 29, Voice will exhibit The Bone Yard, an eclectic array of works he crafted earlier this year using bleached animal bones collected from the Santa Cruz Mountains, stressed wood, antique barbed wire, tempera and acrylic paint, dresser drawers, glue, wood screws and nails. Approximately 20 works are available for sale. The public is invited to an artist's reception on Sept. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 408.867.0171 for more information.
At Gallery Saratoga, which occupies Unit 3 at the same address, Linda Spencer is the featured artist from Oct. 1 through 31. A resident of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Spencer will exhibit floral, historical and abstract collages embellished with encaustic paint, dried flowers and leaves, feathers, romantic and humorous words, stars, angels and wedding rings. A public artist's reception takes place on Oct. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 408.867.0458.
