Parade is ready to roll to Village

More than just one anniversary will be celebrated in town this Sunday. First off, Oct. 3 marks the annual Saratoga Community Parade. Second, the parade will commemorate the 15th year of Saratoga's sister-city relationship with Muko, Japan.

The parade route this year is the same as always, running from the Saratoga Library along Saratoga Avenue, through the Village and on to Wildwood Park, where a celebration will take place.

This year's parade will feature 10 marching bands, floats, antique cars and representatives from the city of Saratoga.

The parade begins at 1:30 p.m., and streets along the parade route will be shut down from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

For more information about the parade, call 408.255.7217.

City still has vacant commission seats

A number of seats are open on four different city commissions: the Library Commission, Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and Finance Commission.

One seat is open on both the Planning and Library commissions, and four seats are open on both the Parks and Recreation and Finance commissions.

Application deadlines vary for each commission through Oct. 15, but to be considered applicants must attend a meeting of the commission to which they're applying.

All applicants for all seats will be interviewed by the City Council on Oct. 20. The council will appoint new members.

For more information on applying and deadlines, or to obtain an application, call City Clerk Susan Ramos at 408.868.1269, or visit City Hall, located at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga.

    Quito Road earns dubious distinction

The National Motorists Association recently rated Quito Road as one of the top speed traps in the country.

The extremely unscientific study, published Sept. 3 in USA Today, surveyed 2,000 of the association's 7,000 members on what spots they believe are overly enforced.

The organization, which advocated eliminating the 55 mph federal speed limit in 1995, listed Los Gatos' Quito Road as one of the eight worst speed traps in California.
