Robert Cooper
Robert J. Cooper died in his Saratoga home on Sept. 5 at the age of 73.
Born on June 7, 1926, in Great Falls, Mont., he attended college at Idaho State University at Pocatello on the V-12 program, and graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he was also in the ROTC program. He then served in the U.S. Navy overseas during World War II.
After the war, Cooper obtained a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. For more than 35 years, he worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Corporation, where he became program manager for the Lockheed/United Kingdom Polaris Program.
Among Cooper's interests were tennis, bicycling, community life and spending time with his family.
Survivors include wife Alice Cooper of Saratoga; daughters and sons-in-law Katie and John Parrish, Margie and Robert Read and Susan and David McBride; son and daughter-in-law John and Jan Cooper; grandchildren Xochitl, Cecilia, Rosa, Daniel, Rebecca, Nathaniel, Makenzie, Holly, Matthew and Gregory; sisters Nancy Loudon and Sally Berntsen; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga. Donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame, Notre Dame de Namur, 14800 Bohlman Road, Saratoga, 95070.
Carol Ann Robillard
Former Saratogan Carol Ann Robillard died on Aug. 13 in Spanish Springs, Nev., where she had been residing. She was 59.
A native of San Jose, Robillard lived in Saratoga for 20 years before moving to Nevada. She spent much of her life working in the food service industry. She also operated her own catering business, Fantasy Foods. Most recently, she served as supervisor of the Cellar Restaurant at the University of Nevada.
Survivors include husband Gary of Spanish Springs; son Marc of San Jose; granddaughter Autumn of San Jose; and parents Artos and Elbert Foster of Redding.

Margaret Carniel
Former longtime Saratogan Margaret Carniel died Sept. 3 in a Sunnyvale nursing home. She was 90.
Carniel was born on Jan. 23, 1909, in Freeburg, Mo., one of nine children. Carniel and husband Frank bought five acres of land in Saratoga in 1946 and completed their home several years later on what became Carniel Avenue. She resided in Saratoga for 48 years.
A former housekeeper and cook for the Edgar Sinton family of Hillsborough, Carniel enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was a member of Our Lady of Los Gatos/Saratoga Young Ladies' Institute No. 197, the Italian Catholic Federation at Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga and St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos. She also attended Ascension Catholic Church in Saratoga.
Carniel was predeceased by her husband in 1971. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in Missouri and Nevada.
Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
Maurice Tripp
Longtime Saratoga resident Dr. Maurice Tripp died on Sept. 6 in Bainbridge Island, Wash., where he was residing. He was 83.
Tripp was born on July 12, 1916, in Holton, Kan., and grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1933. He later attended the Colorado School of Mines, where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in geological engineering. He also held a doctoral degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Balancing his academic and scientific interests was his lifelong devotion to the Boy Scouts of America. He served the Scouting movement at all levels, from local adult leader to member of the National Council.
Survivors include former wife Catherine Burr Tripp of Bainbridge Island; daughters Tinka Hall, Elizabeth B. Tripp and Molly Griest, all of Bainbridge Island, and Wendy Tripp Marino of Los Gatos; sons Maurice "Maury" Tripp Jr. of Los Gatos, David G. Tripp of San Jose and Timothy L. Tripp of Bainbridge Island; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
