    Panthers and Tigers fall

    The Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Panthers of the peewee division and Tigers of the junior peewee decision each lost close decisions in recent weekend play.

    The Panthers dropped a tough 12-0 decision to Palo Alto to slip to 1-1-1 in the young season. Jeffrey West led the rushing attack, while Matthew Donohoe provided much of the blocking. Kevin McCarty was the top passer, with Richard Scudellar his top receiver.

    Jake Schonig took off on a pair of long runs and Bobby Enquist led the charge in the offensive, but the Tigers lost a 6-0 heartbreaker to Mountain View to fall to 1-2 for the year.

    Schonig, Kellan Barker, Alex Estrada and Chris Evan led a solid defensive showing for the Tigers. Mountain View scored the winning touchdown on the final play of the game.

    Nick DellaRochetta was the passing leader for the Tigers and Tyler Plane was the top receiver.

    In other games, the Jaguars lost 25-0 to Hollister, the Bobcats lost 34-0 to Hollister, the Cougars lost 22-12 to Morgan Hill and the Wildcats lost 37-0 to Hollister.

    Trailblazer Race

    Friends of the Stevens Creek Trail will host the Trailblazer Race on Oct. 3 at Charleston Park in Mountain View. The event includes 10K and 5K runs and two-mile and four-mile Audubon Society Nature Walks.

    The cost is $18 for adults and $10 for youngsters 12 and under in advance ($25 and $15 on race day). For more information, contact their website at www.stevenscreek.com/friends or call their hotline at 650.903.6067.

    Pitching Program

    An eight-week fall pitching program for baseball players ages 9-12 will run Tuesday evenings, Oct. 26-Dec. 14, in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

    The program teaches fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills. Players 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., players 11-12 at 8 p.m.

    Bridge-to-Bridge

    The annual Bridge-to-Bridge Run returns to the Bay Area on Oct. 3. The event features a 12K race and a 7K run and walk, and goes from the Embarcadero to Presidio National Park.
