Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't match the efforts of the sophomore singles standout. Modi won three times at No. 4 singles, but the Falcons could win just two of three matches on the week. Saratoga opened the week with a 6-1 nonleague win over Palo Alto, then split in league play, beating Los Gatos 6-1 before falling to St. Francis 5-2. The Falcons are now 3-1 in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. Modi nailed a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles to lead the Falcons to a near sweep against rival Los Gatos. Camille Behnke won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Angi Chua supported with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 and Amanda Wise won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Nancy Walker and Jessica Cone teamed for a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, and Sheila Chako and Melinda Peterson won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles. But only Behnke and Modi could bring home victories against the Lancers two days later. Behnke won 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot and Modi won 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 at No. 4. The Falcons, now 7-2 for the year, had opened the week with a lopsided 6-1 win over Paly in nonleague play. Behnke lost by injury default in the No. 1 spot, but the Falcons swept the rest of the way.
