Saratoga NewsNews BriefsLocal Lions seeking donations for sight Members of the Saratoga Lions Club will collect donations and used eyeglasses at Argonaut Safeway, Quito Market and the Saratoga Village on Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, which were declared Saratoga Lions' White Cane Days by Mayor Gillian Moran. Monetary donations may be given directly to the Lions Santa Clara County Blind Center and the A.J. Robinson Vision Screening Mobile Unit. The used glasses will go to the Saratoga Lions' Recycle Sight Program. New home proposed near Saratoga Creek The Saratoga Planning Commission will hear public testimony at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, on the issue of design review for a 5,120-square-foot residence on a vacant 1.58-acre parcel. The property is located on Ambric Knolls Road at the corner of Congress Springs Road, adjacent to Saratoga Creek. A variance is being requested to allow the home to be built into required setbacks. The Planning Commission meets at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. in the City Council chambers. 'Tis the season for flu shots Saratoga shoppers visiting Longs Drugs in the Argonaut Shopping Center next week will be able to pick up an extra item, offered only one day. Nurses from the Good Samaritian Charitable Trust Visiting Nurse Association will be offering flu immunization shots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Saratoga-Sunnyvale store for $10. The shots are recommended to ward off the flu in preparation for the upcoming winter and are available to people 13 years or older. The shots are offered at Longs Drugs, Safeway, Nob Hill and Lucky stores throughout Santa Clara County, including such Los Gatos locations as the Longs on Los Gatos Boulevard on Oct. 7, the Safeway on Union Avenue on Oct. 12, the Safeway on Pollard Avenue on Oct. 16, the Safeway on N. Santa Cruz Avenue on Oct. 18, the Nob Hill on San Jose-Los Gatos Boulevard on Oct. 19 and the Longs on Los Gatos Boulevard on Nov. 11.
