REI has program on New Zealand
As part of its ongoing series of community programs, REI Saratoga has invited Andrew Fairfax of Active New Zealand to give a slide presentation on his adventures Down Under on Oct. 9, beginning at 7 p.m.
Fairfax will show and tell about some of his favorite hiking, bicycling and kayaking spots in New Zealand's South Island. Among these are Nelson Lakes National Park, Mt. Cook National Park, Marlborough Sounds, Milford Sound and Franz Josef Glacier.
REI is in the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center. There is no charge to attend this event; all ages are welcome. Call 408.871.8765 for more information.
Collage class is at Hakone
Continuing in its tradition of offering a variety of public workshops and classes on arts, crafts, wellness and cultural appreciation, Saratoga's Hakone Gardens is offering a collage class on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., taught by prolific Saratoga artist Kay Duffy.
Duffy will teach participants how to create unique patterns, textures and color schemes using Oriental paper, paints and found objects. Participants should bring watercolor supplies, if they have them, as well as any interesting pieces of paper and flat objects. Everyone will receive one Oriental paper packet.
Cost is $45 per person; bring a salad to share during lunch. To sign up, contact Duffy at 408.867.0508 or at k@kayduffywatercolors.com.
