High School pool should be named after Ray Goni

The new Olympic-size swimming pool at Saratoga High School is a facility that all Saratoga residents can be proud of. I am confident that present and future students at SHS will enjoy the benefits of this marvelous addition to the high school.

With this in mind, I would like to suggest that the swimming pool be dedicated to the memory of Ray Goni. Goni devoted his life to the education of a generation of students at Saratoga High School. Not only an outstanding soccer and football coach, he also was a respected teacher in academic subjects. Goni was loved and admired by all whose lives he touched. Dedicating the new pool in his name would be an appropriate tribute to a wonderful human being.

If you want a yard, stay out of the hills

I cannot believe the city of Saratoga is thinking of shooting our beautiful deer. After all, they were here first. We are moving into and living in their territory.

We have lived in the Saratoga foothills for over 35 years, and still enjoy all of the wild animals, and have taught our children and grandchildren to appreciate the wildlife and nature.

The people moving up here have had many of the natural predators hauled off, plus raccoons, fox, opossums and skunks. We are now being overrun with rats, ground squirrels and mice.

We much prefer the wildlife. Why can't the people who only think of their landscaping and have no concept of the "balance of nature" stay in the valley and leave us nature lovers alone? I vote for the deer. Many of our deer are killed daily by the crazy and speeding drivers on Pierce Road.
