City collects $850 for WWII fund
In June, the city of Saratoga decided to contribute matching funds up to $3,000 to a Washington, D.C., memorial to veterans of World War II, that will cost $100 million.
So far, the city has collected $850 from eight contributors, according to Paula Reeve, senior analyst in the Saratoga city manager's office, making the total that Saratoga will contribute to the fund $1,700.
Residents can still send checks, made out to the World War II Memorial Fund, to the city manager's office in City Hall at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga, CA 95070. The city will send all the checks to the fund.
"It's a very necessary memorial, long overdue," said Councilman Evan Baker.
