'Vials of Life' now available at center

The Saratoga Senior Center will recognize October as National Prescription Month by giving away free prescription bottles, called "Vials of Life."

Inside the bottles are emergency information forms to be completed, placed inside the bottle and stored in the refrigerator. In the event of an emergency, senior center officials say, a corresponding sticker on the refrigerator would alert medical personnel to the bottle and its contents.

In addition, the Saratoga Senior Center will also offer flu shots for $5 on Oct. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Civic Theater.

Hazardous waste collection planned

Finished painting the kitchen and don't know how to get rid of the leftover paint? The city of Saratoga and Santa Clara County are planning a hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, Oct. 10 at West Valley College at 14000 Fruitvale Ave.

Hazardous materials that cannot be put at the curb for weekly collection--such as paint and paint thinners, used motor oil and cleaner containers--can be dropped off at the college's Lot 1, located on the Allendale Avenue side of the college for disposal.

For information on what will be accepted, call 299-6930.

LWV will sponsor an issues forum

The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno will host a forum featuring the pros and cons of this election year's ballot measures on Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Baltic Room of the Student Center at West Valley College.

Co-sponsoring the event will be the American Association of University Women, Los Gatos/Saratoga.

Refreshments will be served.

The league is also planning a forum on Oct. 21, at which candidates for the West Valley-Mission Community College board of trustees, the 15th District of the U.S. House of Representatives and the 24th District of the California State Assembly will face off. The forum will be held in the Saratoga High School Theater from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The high school is located at the corner of Herriman Avenue and Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.
