Saratoga NewsRival Falcons and Wildcats play on Thursday eveningGames moved due to Yom KippurBy Dick Sparrer Eric Bickenbach boomed one through the uprights. But unfortunately for Saratoga, that would be the only score of the day as the Falcons dropped a tough 21-3 decision to Palo Alto last Friday afternoon on the Vikings' home field. Bickenbach drilled a 40-yard field goal in the final seconds of the first half to cut Paly's lead to 7-3. But the Vikings scored two touchdowns in the third period and cruised from there to the win in the first week of the season in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. The loss left the young Falcons 1-3 in the 1998 season as they head into a clash with rival Los Gatos this week. The game was slated for Friday night, but there has been a change in plans for the two football teams. They'll still meet next week in a key De Anza Division game--they just won't meet on the night listed in their season schedules. The Los Gatos-Saratoga varsity football game will be played on Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m., following a 4:15 p.m. frosh-soph game. The two games were moved from Friday to Thursday because of Yom Kippur. In other area games this week, Prospect (a 38-7 winner over Westmont last week) will host Santa Teresa on Oct. 10, 3:30 p.m., to open the season in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, and Westmont will visit Valley Christian on Oct. 11, 7 p.m., at Townsend Field to open the West Valley Division season.
