Lance Campbell (Los Gatos) pitched in six goals to lead the West Valley Community College men's water polo team to a 14-11 win over Diablo Valley College in Coast Conference play last week.
Chris Spencer (Lynbrook), Mark von Behren and John Etheridge (Los Gatos) fired in two goals each in the victory.
The Vikings are now 1-0 to start the conference season and are 14-2 for the year.
The West Valley women's polo team dropped a 16-11 nod to Diablo Valley to slip to 1-1 in conference action.
The De Anza Community College men's and women's soccer teams each came up winners in Coast Conference play last week.
Tonia Kilby knocked in two goals and Melissa Stankevich, Wendy Wager and Tina Walters added one each for the De Anza women in a 5-0 win over Foothill. The Dons improved to 3-1-2 for the year and are 1-0 in conference play after the win.
The De Anza men edged West Valley 1-0 and nipped Ohlone 2-1 to jump to 4-1 in conference play and to 5-1 for the year.
The West Valley women, meanwhile, nailed a tight 1-0 win over Cabrillo in Coast Conference play. The Vikes are 1-0 in the conference and 2-2 for the year.
Janice McCleary led the West Valley cross-country team to a second-place finish at the Lou Vasquez Invitational at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco last weekend.
McCleary covered the 5 kilometers in 18:47 to finish first overall, with teammate Lisa Renteria (Westmont) third in 19:12.
Shasta won the team title with 66 points, and West Valley was a close second at 75.
Boys and girls ages 815 are invited to participate in the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition to be held Oct. 13 at the Camden Activities Center in San Jose. For more information on the free event, call 277-5556.
