Street dance back on this weekend

The Celebrate Saratoga! street dance, postponed after much deliberation following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, will be held this weekend in the Village. The annual event features music from six local bands, including Brickhead, Stormin's Norman & the Cylcones, and the Heartbeats.

Local vendors will be selling food, wine and microbrewed beer. The Red Cross will also be on hand to take donations and give out information on helping victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

Attendees can park at either Saratoga High School or the Argonaut Shopping Center, and a free shuttle will provide transport up to the Village.

For more information, call the Chamber at 408.867.0753

    City will provide Village lighting

The city council recently approved $21,500 to purchase lights for 98 trees in the Village. The new energy-efficient lights will illuminate the downtown area in the evening hours between Thanksgiving and early January.

They will replace the existing strands of lights which have lighted the Village in the past and which were bought by the commercial district's merchants.

The city had covered the electricity costs of lighting in the Village in the past. New efficient bulbs are expected to lower those costs while expanding the area covered by the lights.

    Institute wants vehicle donations

To raise funds for research and patient care, the local Parkinson's Institute is accepting new and used vehicles of all shapes and sizes. The vehicles don't necessarily have to run.

For more information, contact the institute at 408.542.5625

Fundraiser to be held Oct. 20

Members of the Saratoga Fire Department, AMR Ambulance Company and the local branch of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department will host a benefit lunch at Le Mouton Noir on Big Basin Way on Oct. 20 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the New York rescue workers and their families affected by the Sept. 11 attacks. Call 408.867.7017.
