A Taste of the Greenbelt comes to Villa Montalvo

To celebrate the autumn bounty of local farms and vineyards while raising money for and awareness of the Bay Area's remaining open spaces, the Greenbelt Alliance is sponsoring "A Taste of the Greenbelt," a food and wine-tasting event on Oct. 17 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Villa Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga.

Founded in 1958, the nonprofit Greenbelt Alliance seeks to slow urban sprawl and preserve greenbelts--areas of farms, parks and open space preserves--throughout the greater Bay Area. So far, the organization has saved several hundred thousand acres. This month's fundraiser features a variety of wines from Bay Area vineyards, meals prepared by chefs from local gourmet restaurants, and fresh produce and other items from a number of Greenbelt farms, including America Fresh, From the Ground, C.J. Olson Cherries and J&P Farms.

While eating and drinking, those attending can also listen to live music by several groups or explore the hiking trails surrounding the Villa Montalvo estate, situated in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. A silent auction is also part of the afternoon.

Tickets are $35 per person. All proceeds benefit the Greenbelt Alliance's ongoing projects.
