Church hosts musical program

On Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m., Westhope Presbyterian Church invites the community to a musical evening that includes show tunes, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, a military polonaise and religious pieces. Soprano Kate Hendon will be accompanied on piano by Sten Bolander. Hendon holds a music degree from UCLA, teaches piano and voice and sings at local churches.

The church is located at 12850 Saratoga Ave. Children are welcome. There is no charge, but donations will be accepted for the church music fund. For information, call 255-0955.

Dinner benefit aids a friend in need

Saratogans Rob and Brenda Miller and Campbell resident Lynn Mirassou invite the community to a benefit banquet on Oct. 22 they've organized to raise funds for their friend, former Los Gatan Carol Montgomery, who was paralyzed from the neck down in an automobile accident in August 1997.

From 5 to 8 p.m., the Millers will host a dinner with food and wine courtesy of Aqui Grill, Buca La Pastaia, Cafe Marcella, Concannon Vineyards, Eulipia, Ivan Tamas Winery, Pat Smith's Extravaganza Catering, Los Gatos Brewing Company, Wente Vineyards and Willow Street Wood-Fired Pizza.

Cost is $65 per person, with all proceeds donated to the Carol Montgomery Trust Fund. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Call Brenda Duchesne Miller at 741-1111, ext. 118, or Lynn Mirassou at 871-8682 for directions or information.

Foothill Club begins new lecture series

For the first of its 1998-99 Public Lecture Series, the Saratoga Foothill Club welcomes Lynnclaire Dennis, who presents "Love: A New Clear Energy Source," on Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Saratoga Foothill Club clubhouse, located at 20399 Park Place.

Dennis believes that in this increasingly complex society, what the world truly needs more of is love. An international community of scientific and academic minds are working together to uncover the meaning of the word, love. A PBS special is currently being prepared on Dennis' work.
