Saratoga Foothill Club begins lecture series

The Public Lecture Committee of the Saratoga Foothill Club is beginning its fall and winter Public Lecture Series, which is scheduled to feature speakers in October, November, January, February and March.

At 10 a.m. on Oct. 23 and 28, Mary Holmes will present "The Meaning of Art." Holmes is a professor emeritus of art history at UC-Santa Cruz. In addition to her education as a professor, she is also an artist in her own right.

The Saratoga Foothill Club began in 1907 with a group of 12 women who wanted to form a study group. From 1909 to 1914, they helped organize the effort to establish a countywide library system. Now 250 members strong, the club aims to foster and encourage intellectual and civic activities within the club and the community.

A donation of $6 is asked for at each lecture. For information, call 867-2361 or 354-2527.
