Homeowners can get up to $10,000 for improvements

Homeowners whose houses could use a little health and safety repair could receive up to $10,000 to cover the costs if the household fits income-eligibility guidelines.

The city of Saratoga is looking for applicants for the new Safety Grant Program, designed for residents who need to make repairs but don't want to commit to loans through the Saratoga Housing Assistance and Rehabilitation Program. The program seeks to correct health and safety problems within homes and stress prevention with projects that range from covering exposed wires, installing stair and porch railings and grounding electrical systems to installing motion sensor lighting, removing dangerous combustibles and improving disabled access to homes. The grant is made possible by the Federal Community Development Block Grant.

To request an application, call George White or Pete Gonda at 868-1200.
