Fund created in response to animal cruelty cases
After deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office arrested two Campbell boys recently for setting three cats on fire, the board of directors for the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority established an animal care fund. The fund will be used for the veterinary care of animals subjected to cruelty.
Both cats set on fire Sept. 12, on the railroad tracks near Saratoga Avenue and Dagmar Drive, died. Chubz, the cat set on fire Sept. 17 at the same location, survived, but was put to sleep Sept. 23 because its injuries were so extensive.
The 17-year-old boys were charged with two counts of felony arson and three counts of felony cruelty to animals.
