    Youth basketball registration

    The Saratoga Recreation Department is holding registration for youngsters in the first through sixth grades interested in playing in the 2000 Saratoga Youth Basketball League.

    Games will be played on Saturdays, Jan.8-March 19, and the instructional basketball league will stress fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship. All youngsters will play at least two quarters per game.

    Teams in the third-sixth grade divisions will practice one evening during the week, and each player will receive a uniform shirt and a team picture.

    Players in the third and fourth grades will play for teams formed by zones. Players in the fifth and sixth grades will attend a skills assessment session on Dec. 14 at Saratoga High School to determine team placement.

    The first-second grade division is in its first year and will feature shorter baskets. Teams will practice on Saturdays prior to their games.

    Gym open to 40-plus

    The small gym at Saratoga High School will be open for basketball for players ages 40 and over every Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. The drop-in fee is $3 per night, and new players must show proof of age. For more information, call 408.868.1248.

    LG-Saratoga Rec

    The Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Department is holding registration for boys and girls in the third through sixth grades interested in playing in youth basketball.

    Games will be played on Saturdays, Jan. 8-March 11, at the Los Gatos High School and Fisher Middle School gyms. A one-hour evening practice will be held once a week beginning the week of Dec. 6.

    Mail and fax (408.395.3828) registration begins Oct. 25, and walk-in registration begins Oct. 25 during regular hours (Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-4 p.m.) at the Los Gatos Recreation Center, 123 E. Main St. The registration deadline is Nov. 12 or until the leagues are filled.

    The $65 registration fee includes a T-shirt and picture (non-residents pay an additional $5). For information, call 408.354.8700.

    Cupertino Hoops

    Cupertino Hoops offers a basketball program for players in grades 7-10. Signups will be held Nov. 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Quinlan Community Center in Cupertino.
