Tigers, Panthers post victories
Nick Della Rocchetta ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Los Gatos Tigers to a 22-0 victory over the Santa Teresa Bulldogs in the junior pee wee division of the Pop Warner Football League.
Della Rocchetta ran for a touchdown in the second quarter and for another touchdown in the fourth quarter to spark the Tigers to the victory.
Ryan VanAmburg went 30 yards for a second-period touchdown, and Della Rocchetta ran for one conversion and threw to Nick Smith for another to account for the 20 points scored by the offense.
The defense chipped in with a couple of points in the fourth quarter when Nick Kalpin sacked the Santa Teresa quarterback in the end zone for a safety. It was Kalpin's second sack of the day, and he also recovered a fumble that set up the Tigers' final touchdown.
Chris LaBouff also recovered a fumble in the win, and Nathan Estores had two sacks. Kellan Barker knocked down an ST pass and intercepted another. Smith and Kevin Kephart were other defensive stars.
Della Rocchetta, VanAmburg, Alex Estrada and Christian Walker led the offensive attack.
The Los Gatos Panthers, meanwhile, turned an 18-0 halftime lead into a lopsided 31-0 victory over the Santa Teresa Bulldogs in the pee wee division. The Panthers are now 4-1-1 for the year.
Chad Bannan and Jeffrey West scored two touchdowns apiece, and Jacob Whitaker scored a touchdown to lead the Panthers to the easy win.
Bannan blasted over from the 1 for a first-period score, and he scooped up a fumble and raced 60 yards for the Panthers' final touchdown in the third quarter.
West ran for two touchdown s in the second period, one of them on a 14-yard run on a fourth and goal.
Whitaker rambled 54 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, and Cameron Compton ran in for the conversion.
In other local Pop Warner play, the Los Gatos Cougars (junior midgets) beat Santa Teresa 16-8, the Wildcats (midgets) edged ST 14-13, the Jags (junior pee wees) lost to Santa Teresa 32-12, and the Bobcats (pee wees) were blanked by Santa Teresa 35-0.
