    Argonaut, Foothill action is planned

Presentations on facilities plans for both Argonaut and Foothill schools will be made next week at both schools. The school board will be present at each meeting and action will be taken. Passage of a bond measure has made construction and renovation possible at all schools in the Saratoga Union School District.

The meeting at Argonaut will take place on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m.; the Foothill meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28. Both sessions will take place in the multipurpose room at the school.

    Youth Commission dance successful

The Saratoga Youth Commission deemed its first dance of the school year a huge success. Close to 360 teens, including all 12 youth commissioners, gathered at the community center on Sept. 24.

The dance raised about $1,600 for the city's teen programs, commissioner Tannaz Altafi said at the commission meeting on Oct. 12. Teens from schools in Campbell, Cupertino and as far away as Los Altos attended the dance, said Greg Milano, recreation program coordinator. A second dance is planned for Oct 29.

Is home too modern for Saratoga hills?

A modern-looking two-story house, 6,500 square feet, may grace Saratoga's hillsides in the future. Plans for the 2.75-acre vacant lot at 14805 Masson Court, owned by the Liu family, include a house with a facade of wood, aluminum and copper and two driveways.

Planning commissioners, Liu's representative and a neighbor discussed the design review application during a public hearing last Wednesday.

A neighbor, Cheriel Jensen, said it was "the ugliest post-modern structure I've ever seen and it doesn't belong in our hillsides."

But commissioners did not seem to be of the same opinion. They agreed they would like to support the project, but were not ready to approve or disprove the design review application yet, as many questions are still unanswered.

The property is zoned Hillside Residential.

Four commission members, a majority, voted to continue the public hearing on the design review approval of the house plans when the geologic review is complete. Commissioner Lisa Kurasch opposed.
