    Women's club to celebrate volunteerism

The West Valley Federated Women's Club invites interested members in the community to attend "Celebrate the Century in Style: A Century of Volunteerism." This event, which raises funds for local charities the club supports, takes place Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at La Rinconada Country Club, 14595 Clear-view Drive in Los Gatos. The afternoon includes a fashion show by Designer's Corner, a luncheon, gift boutique, door prizes and silent auction. Tickets are $40 per person. For reservations or more information, call Marge at 408.379.0734 or Joyce at 408.264.8884.

Eclectic exhibit on display at Gallery Saratoga

Throughout the month of October, Gallery Saratoga's featured exhibitor is Los Gatos mountain resident, author, counselor and emerging experimental artist Linda Spencer. The show combines three of Spencer's favorite media in which to express her trademark enthusiasm and creativity: encaustic monoprints, Asian papers and collage.

A reception for the artist will take place on Oct. 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3. The public is welcome. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 408.867.0458.

Humorous plays on tap at West Valley College

This year, the West Valley College theater arts department's fall studio production is The Bald Soprano and Other Absurdities. Featuring the works of Eugene Ionesco and Samuel Beckett, two of the world's best-known absurdist playwrights, this collection of short plays offers a vibrant, bizarre and zany theater experience.

The plays take place Oct. 22-24 and 28-31; call for showtimes. Tickets are $8 general admission or $6 for students and senior citizens. Performances are at the Studio Theatre in the music building on the WVC campus, 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga. For directions or more information, call the box office, 408.741.2058.
