Sierra Club makes its endorsements The Guadalupe Regional Group of the Sierra Club announced Oct. 14 that it will endorse council hopefuls Erna Jackman, Evan Baker and John Mehaffey for Saratoga City Council, over Nick Streit and incumbent Gillian Moran. Citing environmental and ecological concerns, the group said the candidates' attitudes toward the ongoing pollution in Saratoga Creek and possible development on Bohlman Road at the Notre Dame Novitiate property off Pierce Road at The Mountain Winery land played a part in its decision. Jackman, Baker and Mehaffey have all said they would seek to settle the lawsuit against the city over the condition of the Saratoga Creek, and would work to make sure that any developments at the Notre Dame property and at the winery fit in with and allowed for neighbor concerns. All five council candidates were interviewed by a panel of five local Sierra Club members, who studied backgrounds and questionnaires filled out by the candidates. According to interview committee chairwoman Marjorie Ottenberg, the panel was unanimous in its decision.
