Saratoga NewsPanthers rolling; Falcons, Warriors look for winsBy Dick Sparrer Prospect was rolling right along. The Panthers were undefeated in five games, and coming off of a rousing 34-0 win over Santa Teresa in the first game of the season in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. And the Panthers were rolling as they headed into a Friday clash with unbeaten Piedmont Hills. But the Pirates stopped that roll by jumping out to a quick 14-0 first-quarter lead against Prospect. So how did the Panthers respond to such adversity? They went on to roll to a 41-14 victory. Prospect battled back from a 14-7 halftime deficit to score 34 unanswered points in the second half to pull out the victory. Craig Malloy ran back a Piedmont Hills kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown to open the second half, and Lee Robinson picked off a Pirate pass and returned it 30 yards for a score to turn the game around for Prospect. Justin Williams ran for a touchdown and passed to Matt Heling for a touchdown and a two-point conversion to lead the Panther offense. Falcons at home Saratoga will try to get back on the winning track this Friday. The Falcons return to Helm Field at Los Gatos High to host Fremont in a 7:30 p.m. league game. Saratoga slipped to 0-3 in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League after a tough 47-6 loss to powerful Wilcox last week. The Falcons are 1-5 overall this fall. The Firebirds are also winless in division play. Fremont lost 56-14 to Los Gatos last week to slide to 0-2 in the division and to 4-2 for the year. Warriors host Lick Westmont will be gunning for its first win of the West Valley Division season when the Warriors host James Lick on Oct. 24, 7 p.m. The Warriors slipped to 0-2 in the division in a 27-13 loss to Lincoln last week. Mark Newton tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass to J.R. Martignetti and Ryan Brando crashed over from the two for a second TD in the Westmont loss.
